Awesome Family Picture

Here's the cast and crew of our trip to Disneyland two weeks ago. From left to right: My step-mom, my half-sister, me, my half-brother, my son (Cameron), my other half brother, my daughter (Allison), hubby (Yoshi), my daughter (Megan), my step-mom's step-mom, and my dad. All clear?

This picture was taken on the StorybookLand ride.

Addicted to a New Game

Today, hubby brought home Guitar Hero for the PS2. O.M.G. It rocks. You must try. Everyone.

Look at the extended entry for some action shots:

New Entry at Life Without School

I'm a little late in entering this, but I have a new entry at Life Without School. It's the 2nd one down, and it's a similar post to something I wrote here a few weeks ago. There's a bunch of new entries up. If you haven't been there in a while, go take a look-see.

Cameron's First Sleepover

Cameron had his first sleepover last night. He stayed with his cousin (and his cousin's parents) at their hotel. He's probably going to stay with them tonight and tomorrow too. He will miss his cousin so much when they leave. They have been insepararable.

We're Back

What an awesome four days at Disneyland.

We discovered some secrets about DL that we never knew about even after years of free entry to the park. We went on rides we had never been on together. We made it on all the roller coasters. We even went on California Screamin' twice in a row, and Yoshi and I got to sit *next* to one another. We got into the park at 7:30am, giving us time to go on a handful of rides without any wait. We swam in the hotel pool and went down the waterslide. We had 1-2 glasses of free wine and plates full of French cheese every night. We watched the fireworks from a super-secret lounge at the top of the hotel. And, we did all this along with my dad and his family. In fact, we did all this because they were here. Without them, we would have never had this kind of experience.

It gave us a whole new perspective on DL. I thought that after four days I'd be sick of it. But I'm not. In fact, I'd go back again today if my dad had the tickets.

Oh, and as a highlight to the trip, I saw one of my loyal readers at the park! It was still pretty early in the day, and I heard someone calling my name. I looked around, and a woman I did not recognize was waving at me. It was Laura who you've seen comment on here on my blog. She recognized me from the pictures I've posted here. It was fun to meet her family and see her beautiful kids. Hi Laura!

Disney might be a money grubbing multi-billion dollar corporation, but they know how to do things right (and make you wanna spend your money on their stuff). Yes, yes, I got sucked in. I have to say that after this trip, I'm a pretty solid Disney fan.

Animusic

My son is completely smitten with a video called Animusic. He watches it all the time; morning, day and night. The girls love it too. The three of them crowd around the computer picking different music videos to watch.

Because of Animusic, Cameron learned how to use Firefox, how to do an online search and how to play videos online. I think Megan and Allison are learning how to as well, just by watching him.

Our kids were born into a life of computers. To think of what they will consider "high tech" when they are adults boggles the mind. I just hope I can keep up with them, and not grow to be an old lady huddled around my archaic lappy, telling the kids, "You don't know how good you got it. Why, when I was your age, all I had was 700k DSL and we had to be at least 100 feet from our Airport router."

Nah, won't happen. Between Yoshi and the kids, I'll always be on my techy toes.

Bye Bye Land Line

We are thinking of disconnecting our house phone and using only our cells. Can you think of any reason why this would be a bad idea?

Inspiration

What would life be like if you were never inspired? That's what Stella Resnick asks in The Pleasure Zone. Published in 1998, it's a little old as self-help books go. However Stella's observations still ring true today; our culture spends a lot of time and energy moving away from the things that give us pleasure.

She talks about a lot of things, but at one point, she asks as a sidenote what life would be like if we were never inspired. I had to put down the book when I came to that part, because I realized right there that a great amount of my life happiness comes from having the freedom to be inspired and to act on those inspirations. I see my kiddos, and they have the same thing - lots of time to be inspired and to work on the projects and goals that come from those inspirations.

I have been slowly moving towards a more inspired life, and I have to say, that the more chance I have to work on the projects that get my juices flowing, the better I am at dealing with the everyday stresses that surround me. On the days that I have little or no chance to write my ideas or to spend time on the things that keep me enthralled, I am grumpier, less tolerant and less satisfied with my accomplishments - even if I got a lot done during the day. Getting a lot done seems to have little correlation to my perspective on life. Getting done things that I am inspired to do fill my satisfaction bucket much better than things that I force myself to do, or that I am required to do.

Our kids are living a life FULL of inspiration. Every day they flow from one inspiration to the next. There's hardly a time when they don't have some kind of idea to keep them at work. Even Cam, who's almost 8, hasn't slowed down. Allison, is only increasing her inspiration resevoir as she gets older. And Megan was born inspired - don't get in HER way.

Have I, as a parent and "teacher" (according to the state of CA) done anything in particular to "make" them inspired? Absolutely not. I might spark an idea or be a role model, but their inspirations are theirs. They own every single one of their projects. They own their successes and their failures. I just give them lots of space, lots of experiences, lots of love, help when they need it, and then let them do their thing.

And often, they are the ones inspiring me. They certainly have inspired me to follow my dreams, as silly or as impossible as they may seem. Because that's what they do, and often what seems impossible, is only impossible because I doubt. They don't doubt, and they succeed. They fail too. But that doesn't stop them. And they succeed far more often than they fail.

Inspiration - it's what drives learning. It's what drives us to want to better ourselves and better the world. Inspiration is what creates new ideas. Imagine what this world would be like if we could all have time to be inspired, and then act on those inspirations, everyday.

Do you have the time to regularly be inspired, and to do something about it?
