Happy Birthday Megan!

Megan is 3 today! Happy Birthday my sweet one.

Megan is so excited, she's singing Happy Birthday to Me! again and again. Allison decided to make Happy Birthday signs for Megan and is taping them all over the house. For lunch, Megan wants to go to Bob's and have a Teddy Bear Waffle.

Monte Cristos

We went to the D today. We went to Café Orléans for dinner. Yoshi and I had our first Monte Cristos.

Yoshi had the traditional with ham, turkey and cheese. Mine was just three different kinds of cheeses. It was battered and fried, and a raspberry dipping sauce accompanied it. Mine was also topped with a lot of powdered sugar.

Allison LOVED my Monte Cristo. Cam liked it too.

Allison said to me, "It's like having dinner and dessert at the same time!" Cheese and sugar - Allison's dream meal.

All in all, not fantab, but not bad. Something different, which was fun. Don't think we'll have it again soon. But I'm sure, if we go there again, the kids will want it.

1/2 Marathon

So, I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in February. I'm up to 8.5 miles for my long run. I do two short runs as well, plus my step class and yoga classes, and some weights here and there. I've been training since August.

Some observations:

1) It takes a long time to train for a new sport. I've been doing step for friggin' ever, yet when I first started running again, my legs felt like bricks. Even now, they still get really, really tired after my long runs.
2) It's easy to over-train. The first month in a half I trained too much. I did something to my hamstring and it was sore for a few weeks. I brought my weekly mileage way down. But I was worried of bringing it down too much. Finding a balance is tough, but important.
3) Running, for me, is really hard. Mentally, it rocks. Physically, it's very challenging. This is not a sport that comes easily to me. Some days I start out thinking, "what the hell am I doing?" But on the days of my long run, by mile four or five, I'm so damn happy I'm out there. I think it might be the endorphins.
4) I'm scared to death of the race. I've never run that far in my life. It will take me about three hours. But then, every weekend, I go out there and run farther than I did the week before. So, I don't think about the race when I'm training.
5) Right now I'm eating a fat bowl of ice cream. This is after having a huge dinner. Why? Because I'm SO HUNGRY all the time. Normal side-effect I hear.
6) When I told my friend, Diane, that I had run 8 miles that day, she asked me, "Why you running so much? Who are you running from?" I replied, "Cuz I like it." Sounds crazy. But I do. I like running, even though it hurts and it's hard and I barely run faster than an old lady and her walker.

I'll give ya'll more details about the race when it gets closer. I'm gonna go finish my fat bowl of ice cream and magic shell now. Yum!

Ok Go Rocks!

I just LOVE this video. I posted about this a little bit ago. Here's a live version. Soooo sweeeet.

My Hidden Librarian

My neighbor told me today that deep down, she's a librarian. This surprised me coming from a woman who has a solid background as a movie make-up artist, and whose idea of a good time is a "girls' night out"... if you know what I mean. Interestingly, she wants to homeschool her daughter.

That made me think - you know, most of my homeschooling friends, I could totally see them as librarians. And many of my non-homeschooling friends are teachers or librarians as a profession. Birds of a feather...? Could I be a librarian too?

I have worked at Border's and I worked many years as a computer lab faciliator/attendant/whatever. I loved both those jobs SO much. I would do them for free, just to be around books and computers intended for research. Really, I would do them just to have daily access to an infinite source of information. I'm an information junkie. (It's no wonder I love the internet.) I also feel a nearly painful pull to help people (uhm, even when they don't want help.. *blush*). Not just my children, but everyone.

I think I would be an awesome librarian. Not only would I be great at helping people find what they are looking for, I would do it with an exuberant attitude. Seeing others succeed and attain their goals (no matter how small) drives my enthusaism for life more than almost anything else.

Also, librarians get to be around books ALL DAY. They get to choose which books to be around. They get to talk to people about books. They get to have first dibs at the new acquisitions. Librarians rock. If I had gone another route in my life, a librarian would have been a definite possibility.
