The first part of our trip we spent in San Francisco. We met up with some friends and did some sight seeing. We also spent a lot of time during those first few days de-toxing.

We met with our friends Evelyn and Scott at a SF creperie. It was the first time I'd had a crepe like this since I lived in France.

After spending some time near SF, we drove up to Sonoma and checked into an awesome hotel - La Rose. Situated in the middle of downtown Santa Rosa, it was the prefectly central location for our day trips. They were also super nice. The receptionest spent nearly a half hour giving me suggestions on where to go. They also provided a nice breakfast. It had an upgrade-European feel to it.

This was the first winery we went to - AlderBrook. We were so green, it must have shown. We got carded. The only place we were carded the whole trip. The sommelier spent some time explaining some stuff to us, and making some suggestions on where to go. We bought our first bottle of wine there. A Chardonnay For my mom.

This was the second place we visited - Preston. It was by far our favorite, out of all the wineries we went to. It was certified organic, they were very concerned about perserving the land and the wildlife and not using chemicals. They were a somewhat small vineyard, and they only used 1/3 of their grapes for their own wine (the rest they sold to other wineries), so their wine was litterally their baby. We liked the wine. We bought a bottle of Sangiovese. Yum.

Yoshi tasting some Preston wine. Imagine this scene about 100 times over, and that is what wine tasting is like.

Our second day in Santa Rosa, we were a little tired of tasting wine, so we took a trip around Bodega Bay. This was one of the many vantage points where we stopped to look at the ocean. Apparently, this beach is very dangerous. Signs were everywhere telling us not to get too close to the water or to hang out near the cliffs. FEW SURVIVE, they said. There was a slight chance of a surge of waves, plus a strong undertoe. We didn't see anyone on the beach hanging out. It was just a beautiful beach to look at, and listen to.

At one of the stops (It was called Goat Rock), there were some really interesting rock formations. This one here had veins of a shiny something-or-other all through it. Much more than any of the other rocks out there. We were trying to figure out what it was, and why that one rock was different.

Yoshi found another interesting rock here. It was fun to try and figure out how that rock came to be.

This was a beautiful rock formation just off the coast.

That same day, we drove up to the Anderson Redwood Forest. Breathtaking.

The forest was really quite dense, and in some areas, sun barely ever made it through, so there was moss everywhere. Then, in some areas, a ray of sunshine snuck through the trees and made the forest illuminate a bright green. You could see the mist floating in the sunlight.

Here was a small opening to the sky among the dense redwoods.

This statue was right across from our hotel in Santa Rosa. Charles Schultz lived and died in Santa Rosa. There was a museum there, and statues like this all over town. This was the only bronze statue. Others were painted. We didn't make it to the museum though. Almost, but got distracted at the last minute by the idea to zip over to Napa.

This is the stash we came back with. We gave two bottles to my mom, to thank her for watching the kids all week.
