Will Meg Need Glasses?
At Meg's 4 year checkup today, we found out, she's super duper nearsighted in her left eye. Other eye seems normal. From playing a few "can you see that?" games with Meg after the appt., it looks like she's a tad more nearsighted than I am in my "bad" eye. So, we're going to take her to a pediatric ophlamologist (how the heck do you spell that?).
She also tested really high on cholesterol. My other kids haven't been tested for cholesterol. It must be new. Anyway, she tested high. So I'm a tad concerned because I don't understand it. In adults, I understand what that means, generally. But in children, I never even heard of it! So I did some research on the internet, and there seems to be some debate over what it means. Is high cholesterol an indicator of future obesity, or is it an indicator of possible diabetes, or is it just a thing some kids have and they eventually grow out of it? Is it diet or hereditary? Also, we don't eat a high fat diet - med fat, yes, but not overly high. So the number really surprised me. I'm thinking that yesterday's party, where Megan pretty much lived off of pizza, ice cream and frosting, might have something to do with her results today.
Otherwise, all is well. She's healthy and strong, and as cute as a button. 4 going on 15 she is. We're going to be in for it when she gets to her teens.
